New home design ideas – Stockton house

When the kids leave the nest, parents can be forgiven for celebrating the new opportunities it brings.

The owners of this home were looking to downsize from their large family home into something more practical, affordable, easy to maintain and most importantly to them, energy efficient.

After initial site inspections, it was apparent that local sea breezes and the sites north-easterly aspect were by far the most valuable assets to the site, and this dictated the new homes design.

Green design

Living Green Designer Homes best utilized these natural features by designing a simple L shaped home that wrapped around the central deck to really hardness and maximise the benefits of the local conditions.

As well as the L shape design both main bodies of the home were kept as single room corridors that made it easier to achieve cross ventilation, allowing cooling easterly breezes through to every room in the house at a much faster rate, as and when needed.

The large central deck was a key element for the owners who have a big family and love to entertain.

Sustainable materials

The house was built entirely of lightweight materials to reduce the impact on the site. Scyon™ Axon™ and Easylap™ cladding were used externally to give the home a beachy feel that would fit its surroundings while still having a modern edge.

The flexible design of the home and usage of multi purpose areas meant that the overall size of the home was minimised while still maintaining maximum feel and usability.

After only seven weeks, building was complete. The home is a great example of how downsizing doesn’t mean compromising, and the clients could not have been happier with the result.
