New home designs – Yagoi 100 Sustainable House

Over 100 sustainability features were included in this award-winning, eco-friendly home.

Yagoi 100’ is an eco-friendly home that intentionally includes over 100 sustainability features.

The house, which is situated in The Ecovillage in Currumbin, was designed to incorporate the best of the currently available environmentally friendly design principles and products.

The residential dwelling is a showcase and live working model of sustainable construction built in the Currumbin Valley QLD, and easily meets the clients and estates need for incorporating end to end sustainability and exceptional design.

Ecologically sustainable design

It achieves more ecologically sustainable design by matching technology, solar passive design and aesthetics. The home includes solar photovoltaics, solar hot water, maximum insulation, native gardens and is located in a sustainable community environment.

It won the HIA CSR Energy Efficiency House 2009 Gold Coast award. It has an energy star rating of 7.2 and has virtually no water, gas or power bills. It is still comfortable, uses only low-toxicity materials and provides a stable temperature all year round.

Lightweight materials

The house incorporates lightweight materials including timber, cladding and sheeting to ensure low embodied energy and temperature control requirements were met. It also provides some thermal mass to ensure the hot sun can heat the mass during winter to provide passive hearting. This is via a suspended polished concrete slab and some strategically placed recycled besser block walls.

Recycled timber beams and poles are featured throughout the house. Even a recycled tram track was used to support the balcony roofs!

The house touches the earth lightly, by building up without any strip footing or any significant ‘slab on ground,’ which preserved the geology of the site. Making good use of a range of recycled materials meant that costs were kept down. The additional ‘green-premium’ paid will ensure the house has virtually no water and energy bills, so over the long term will save the residents significant finances.

The 3 bedroom + study house allows for ‘work from home’ activities to reduce transport costs. It also contains 3 bathrooms to provide flexibility and is designed with adaptability in mind.
